Lyricist, singer/songwriter and guitarist, Matt Nathanson will be releasing his new album, Some Mad Hope on August 14th. Produced by Marshall Altman and Mark Weinberg, Some Mad Hope is his sixth studio album and first for Vanguard.
In many ways, Some Mad Hope is Nathanson's most fully realized work to date. He balances his intensely personal worldview with engaging character studies. "I think of [Some Mad Hope] as an album in the classic sense and not just a collection of songs," he says. "There's definitely a theme there, a tracing of the ups and downs of a relationship. It gets dark in places, but it ends on a note that's hopeful -- it's not cut-and-dried, but it points to the future in a way that I see as positive."
From the opening track (and first single), "Car Crash," an emotional declaration with a backdrop of rhythmic guitars, to the driving pulse of "Detroit Waves," the sexiness of "Come on Get Higher" to the moving, lush, hymn-like feel of "All We Are", each of the songs on Some Mad Hope tells a distinct story. This record solidifies his lyrical finesse set against a melodic canvas.
Nathanson has amassed a large and loyal fan base through his engaging live shows and relentless touring as a solo artist and performing with such artists as John Mayer, Tori Amos and Guster. Paste Magazine citied, "His lush 12-string guitar, heartfelt vocals and sharp wit...a great representation of why we go to concerts in the first place." He will be embarking on an extensive headlining tour in support of Some Mad Hope in the fall.
Matt Nathanson is based in San Francisco. His other releases include At The Point (Live solo acoustic), Beneath These Fireworks, Still Waiting for Spring, When Everything Meant Everything, Ernst, Not Colored Too Perfect, Please.
The single "Come On Get Higher" is Top 20 on the Hot AC chart.
